The corporation Apple has tendered the US patent agency with a new invention which will enable the users of sensor screen gadgets to cut, copy and paste fragments of text and work with files.

At the moment the company produces the Smartphone iPhone and multimedia player iPod Touch with multi-sensor displays. Their capabilities and the capabilities of notebooks Macbook Air with the analogical touchpad Apple in the document are called referring to the “major.”

The additional functions are much wider and enable the users to, for instance, cancel the last action or teach the sensor to identify certain touches as the Tab button. For certain operations you can use up to 3 fingers – thumb, forefinger and middle fingers.

Another novelty is the ability of the system to identify the side part of the little finger. Owing to the fact that the imprint of this part of the finger is completely different to the imprints of other fingers, the user will be able to change the volume of screen brightness in a few moments.

Some time before, 5 Apple engineers patented a technology enabling to define to which application user’s touches refer to with the help of a touchpad. This helps to control a number of applications simultaneously.

A few more words about Apple’s software development, from now on the group of developers Tiny Code works for Apple Inc.

Their web-page features an announcement of the following content:

Tiny Code no longer produces fixes or applications for firmware 1.1.3. We can’t say much, but we are working with Apple and with their SDK for the next firmware release and SDK applications and we shouldn’t be missed for long. We will no longer update our Installer. app repo for legality reasons and you should see us soon on iTunes.

Who’s next? Zibri? Geo? Netkas?

Update: Comments from the Tiny-Code developer:

Yes, Tiny-Code.com was ordered to be removed from operation by Apple, Inc because by releasing firmware versions and stating I had possession of the firmware and SDK was apparently a violation of the Non-Disclosure Agreement I agreed to when I accepted a copy of the SDK and firmware.

According to the financial director of the company Warner Music Group Michael D. Fleisher, in the USA the level of ringtone sales has significantly decreased and during the first quarter of 2008 it will stay stable. Meanwhile other mobile products including ringbacktones, full tracks and other mobile applications haven’t yet brought much revenue.

The representative of the company also mentions that 40% of the world’s revenue (it means %56.4 million from $14 million per quarter) from digital service come from mobile industry. In the USA online subdivision of the company’s business is more developed than mobile although on a global scale the both branches stay on almost the same level.

Financial Times writes that Warner’s announcement about the decrease in ringtone sales is a true reminder about the efforts of music companies that want to compensate losses from physical sales by digital ones. Recent research by the analytical companies Jupiter Research and M:Metrics have proved that the sales of ringtones decrease in both Europe and the US.

Nevertheless Warner Brosers hope that new devices and more integrated music service by phone manufacturers will be able to increase the revenue from mobile downloads. The head of Warner Music, Edgar Bronfman, pointed out the recent agreement signed between the company and phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson. According to the agreement, Warner will be able to place its content on the mobile service PlayNow proviced by Sony Ericsson. Bronfman praises the service for “significantly enhanced user interface, content library and functionality,” which, according to his words, are the major factors of mobile business development.

Bronfman commented on the progress of the company:

“2007 was a challenging year for the recorded music industry. Operationally, the WMG team had some notable achievements this year – our highest U.S. album share in a decade, the top two labels for U.S. market share, the greatest U.S. digital album share advantage over physical album share for any major music company and more stable music publishing performance - among many others. We recognize that there remains much to be accomplished and are working towards translating these gains into enhanced value for shareholders.”

Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Vringo sign agreement

The news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) has signed agreement with Vringo. The goal of the collaboration is offering news video-clips as mobile ringtones. The service will allow ringtones on the incoming calls plus adjusting the user’s personal video-ringtone which will be observed by those whom he/she calls (of course, the user who receives a call is one of Vringo clients and is included in the list of the caller friends).

There springs up an issue about the demand on the new clips-ringtones, but if the videos are the archives of different popular news, it may turn out to be quite a popular service.

The most important detail of the agreement is that there are no obvious risk for either of the sides. AFP won’t make a fortune out of the service, but at the same time the investments into the project are more than modest. Vringo will benefit as well as it will provide a wider assortment of the available video-services.

Free Music by Nokia and Universal

free_music_by_nokia.jpgThe companies Nokia and Universal are increasing their share of the market of music downloads. Having signed an agreement, they offer a 1-year free access to the music of Universal artists for the purchasers of Nokia’s music phones.

The peculiarity of the service is that the users can save songs on their phones even after the free trial period of 12 months. The user will have to buy Nokia’s phone supporting the service, but at the moment such phones are still not available. The unique PIN-code will supply the users with the access to the music shop where they will be able to download songs to their phones. Nokia is trying to involve other record labels in the participation in the service “Comes With Music,” which the Finnish company is planning to release at the beginning of the next year.

Rob Wells, Senior Vice President for digital operations at Universal, told Reuters:

I believe the announcement will act as a catalyst for a whole number of business partners to step forward. It’s definitely going to stimulate the business next year. We are moving into an access world. Consumers will have access to all the recorded music available through the price of the device, or the price of service, or the price of broadband.”

Game Time: Guitar Legend. Get On Stage

Game Time: Guitar Legend. Get On Stage

You are sure to have heard the phrase “Rock-and-Roll is dead” hundreds of times. It is true that the era of heavy guitar riffs, long hair and aggressive lyrics is long gone. The following fact can serve as the proof: even the idols of rock-music the band “Metallica” have had their hair cut and have changed their image. One has to keep up with time. They say, that rock died together with Kurt Cobain - the last star on the horizon of heavy music. It might be that way, but it would be unjust to say that rock is not claimed for nowadays.

But let us not plunge into the detail of the divisions and subdivision of rock music and argue which band plays real rock. Let us get down to the game devoted to the dream of about every second schoolboy – to become a rock star and gather stadiums by his masterly guitar riffs.

Gameplay

Having chosen one of the three heroes you start a rock guitarist career from garage concerts and eventually you become more and more popular by performing in small clubs at the beginning and then in huge clubs etc. Each stage of your career consists of 5 songs which you have to perform as brilliantly as you can. The quality of your performance affects not only your further fate but the amount of money you earn (and the money in the game are used instead of game points). Moreover, the quality of your performance affects the title your get after every song.

You won’t perform as a lone guitarist on stage. Your task is to perform the major guitar part of the composition. The songs you are going to perform can be easily recognized ( the game features the all-time hits like Heart-Shaped Box (Nirvana), Smoke on the Water (Deep Purple)), that’s why it will be easier for you to hit the motive. Having floundered you will “brake” a song very realistically which can be quite frustrating and disappointing. Don’t worry and try to come into the rhythm as soon as possible.

Graphics

guitar_legend_4.gif  guitar_legend_5.gif

In spite of the simplicity of the idea, Guitar Legend looks quite OK in the respect of graphics. The heroes you are offered move naturally and are brilliantly made. You might even get some kind of 3D illusion. As was mentioned before, there are 3 heroes in the game. The punk-girl Kat Nilds with the motto: “You know that you are a rock start when you get up with a hangover” (the fact that a number of rock idols have problems with alcohol consumption is known, but JavaGames notifies you about the overwhelming consumption and the problems it may cause). The seconds hero is “Saw Rob.” He looks like a typical rocker – long hair tied with a headscarf, a shirt with a scull, tattoos etc. His motto: “Sing 50 songs about a dinner with a Satan…I’m out!” The third hero is Exel Carnaby, a real fop, dressed in the Britpop style -  tight jeans and a gangster hat, a tie and striped shirt. This guy says: “It is OK to climb the ladder until you are too old.”

Conclusion

The game is the second one by Gameloft dedicated to rock-music and it is great! It is great that this way we are not allowed to forget the powerful period in the music culture and the legendary rock hits. The dynamic gameplay and bright graphics add to the brilliant impression from Guitar Legend. The game is a must for rock fans and people who wanted/want to become rockers.
