IPhone Firmware 2.2: Screw You, I’ll Get MMS and Copy-Paste!

Ok, the iPhone 2.2 firmware has been released. As usual there’s already been lots of arguments concerning this one. Even the most commited Apple’s fans admit that the firmware is not exactly what they expected. Still, we can fill all the deficiencies, if you know what I mean.

The good news is that the new firmware surely fixes several bugs and adds various new features to iPhone. Mail and safari updates, over-the-air podcasts and a StreetView upgrade. All in all the new firmware is faster and more stable.

What are the bad news? The bad news are that the iPhone still doesn’t have copy/paste. Personally I just can’t believe it. If that wasn’t iPhone the question of buying a smartphone with no copy/paste would even arise for me.

Another point is that there’s still no MMS in iPhone, that’s a trifle actually, but it would be great to have them.

And a sad one: no flash. And apparently it wont ever appear.

In this article i will try to gather up the most essential features that iPhone still doesn’t have and to offer you a decent substitute to them.

Let’s try to add a copy/paste feature to your iPhone with this app. It adds a text box to the webpage where you can type something. Then when you want to copy that typing to another webpages, you just call bookmarks, choose the webpage with textbox and push the Get button. Not very excellent of course, but still better than nothing :)

Now, let’s make our iPhone send MMS. The app is called MMS 0.1 and you can download it here. After you download the files, just put them into /Applications/MMS. app/ directory. The app is very raw and has lots of bugs, so there might be errors while running it. You also need your mobile operator’s MMS data set in the app.

And finally, let’s browse some flash videos.

iMobileCinema is a plugin for safari enabling you to watch internet videos on various sites like Youtube and Google Video.
