Can the Next BlackBerry Curve 9000 be iPhone Killer?

Have you heard that announcement on CNBC about BlackBerry 9000 being an iPhone killer? They mentioned BGR’s First Impressions of the BlackBerry 9000 and called the device an upcoming hit.

Well, with all due respect to the opinion of CNBC I can call their statement at least doubtful! Can these devices really compete?

Let’s have all the pros of BB 9000 considered:

480×320 screen
GPS
Wi-Fi
3G
New OS
Faster processor (624 Mhz)
What else?

But are there any cons of BB? Sure there are! For example, that ugly keyboard. So far, I haven’t heard a single person who would comment on the keyboard positively. Everyone says the same: why put the keyboard from 8830 on the new device? But at the same time I cannot say that everyone is absolutely happy with Apple’s touchpad. Some say that it is simply disgusting for emailing and this sort of stuff.

Another thing about BB 9000 is the battery. The phone has been created for business use, BUT can a real successful phone has a battery that lasts no more than 4 hours in the direct call mode? I wouldn’t say that! Even the direct competitor of BB 9000 Nokia E90 has a longer battery life (to tell you the truth E90 seems unbeatable in this very respect!) But some people say that it is no wonder that the battery is so “thin” considering the number of options provided by the creators (Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS), these people don’t seem to mind carrying a reserve battery in their pockets.

Well…that’s not all with the disadvantages of BB 9000. The OS of the device cannot stand to any kind of criticism. Why? Because it is antiquated. It has unbelievable memory leaks, constant java errors etc. With such software backup I doubt that BB will ever keep up to the pace of Apple not speaking of overtaking it.

So what can we conclude from CNBC’s forecast? I would say that these two gadgets (I mean iPhone and BB 9000) fight in different weight class. So far (with a new iPhone coming) BB hasn’t beaten BB in a single category. So DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT BB 9000 IS iPhone KILLER?
