Synchronizing Mozilla Firefox Extensions with iPhone: SyncMarks

The more we love the iPhone the more we have to admit that iTunes sync features are not really satisfactory (to put it mildly). The thing is that when you want to synchronize your bookmarks you can do that with IE or bookmark pages on iPhone directly. As you might have already noticed the above mentioned option didn’t include Mozilla Firefox bookmarks and this web-browser is widely used.

In fact, of course, it can be done, but it is not that easy and fast. The solution to the problem can be found in synchronizing Firefox with IE. In order to do that there is a Firefox extension called SyncMarks. It allows synchronization of Firefox with other web-browsers (including, of course, IE). Here is how to do it:

Stage 1

syncmarks_iphone.gif

You download and then install SyncMarks. In order to do it you have to give the permission to install the extension. After that you restart the browser.

Stage 2

syncmarks_iphone_2.gif

You go to Tools -> Add-ons. Select SyncMarks and press the Options button

Stage 3

syncmarks_iphone_3.gif

When SyncMarks dialog springs up on the General tab you make sure that the Firefox overwrites target option is enabled under Synchronisation Method. This will enable Firefox to overwrite IE’s bookmarks. Then you enable the functions “Synchronise on Startup” and “Synchronise on Exit”.

Stage 4

syncmarks_iphone_4.gif

You press “Choose Folder” to choose the bookmarks you want to synchronize. You will be redirected to the bookmark folder, but you can also choose a sub-folder if you want to sync bookmarks partially.

Stage 5

syncmarks_iphone_5.gif

Choose “Favorites” where you enable Synchronise to Windows Favorites. If it hasn’t been done automatically you need to press Choose Folder in order to show the app your Explorer Favorites folder. Other options default, press “Synchronise Now”.

Stage 6

Open iTunes and attach your phone. When it appears press “Info”. You have to enable “Sync bookmarks” under Web Browser and select IE from the provided list. Then you press Sync and wait for your Firefox bookmark being copied to the iPhone.

Who Else Wants The Best iPhone Yahoo! Answers?

Who Else Wants The Best iPhone Yahoo! Answers?

yahoo_answers.jpgI decided to dedicate another post to Yahoo answers. To tell you the truth this is an inexhaustible source of ideas and questions. When you look through it you find the same questions day after day, but sometimes you come across incredible inquiries and then you mark them out. The whole previous week I’ve been collecting the most interesting and though provoking questions as well as the answers for them.

So, I’ve come up with the list of most peculiar Yahoo Answers:

1.Q.

Should I keep my iPod when I get my iPhone?
I’m getting an iPhone for my birthday and was wondering if I should keep my iPod or sell it? The iPhone has a built-in iPod so… yeah:]
The iPod is a 3rd Gen. Nano - Blue - 8gb

A.

You should keep your iPod if it’s one of the smaller ones and you like to take it running. The iPhone, although there are cases that allow you to take it running, is a little bulky.
I’ve only used my iPod for running since I got my iPhone. It’s great.

2.Q

What is the easiest, safest, and quickest way to get a free iphone?
The phone i have stinks! i really want to get an iphone but i dont have any money. How can i get one for free and soon!!!!!!

A.

There is really no point in getting one as you will not be able to afford the monthly plan. You cannot get an iphone on Pay as You Go. A bit like getting a Rolls Royce and not affording the Insurance and fuel.

BUT there was an alternative answer:

there is a web site that you can use to get a free ipod or money. all you need to do is complete trial offers or complete one trail offer and refer afew people to the site. here’s the site link www.freeofferspot.com if you want to use the site please use this link http://www.YourFreeiPhone.com/index.php?… im trying to get my free iphone too :D anyone who wants a free iphone please use the link directly above this :) also all you need to give them is your shipping address and your name and email!

3.Q

Does anyone know a way to get the iPhone 2.0 beta release?
Apple has released a Beta version of its 2.0 firmware (due out to the public in June) to selected developers and enterprises. Anyone know if it has been leaked/have any tips on how to get a copy of the firmware?

A.

You can get it if you are going to develop your own applications. Other than that, there is no way. I do not know why you would want it since there are no applications for it yet. They are all in development and after that, Apple has to approve them.

I also highly doubt that anyone who has it will give you a copy because then they can get it taken away and why would someone risk that for a stranger?

4.Q

If i buy a new iphone, what happens to my phone number?
i need to move up from the 8gb to the 16gb.
if i sold my iphone on ebay, how could i cancel my phone number on that phone and switch it to the new one i will buy?
also there is no possible way to send in my 8gb and get the guys at apple to put in a 16gb flash drive.. right?

A.

you could have took out the SIM in your old one and put it in your new one
5.Q

This one I found the most peculiar. Yesterday I wrote a post about iPhone clones, and today (you won’t believe it) I’ve come across a similar question at Yahoo answers. Here you are:
Should I buy a iphone clone?

A.

As for the answers, the opinions split!

The best answer chosen by the readers says:

They look cool! I wouldn’t mind having one that runs Windows Mobile!

But there are other answers and they go the opposite direction:

Celebrity Fake List: Top 10 iPhone Clones

Celebrity Fake List: Top 10 iPhone Clones

Apple iPhone is undoubtedly a settled trademark. It is a high quality product. No wonder that Apple is releasing its new generation 3G iPhone in 60 days. But that’s the bit of news. I’m driving at the fact that a number of companies try to copy the device in all the possible ways in order to make their products more popular. But…you know, no matter how close they come to the iPhone all these clones remain clones which are such a long way down from the real iPhone.

So, I’ve come with a list of 10 iPhone clones. To tell you the truth, this list wasn’t invented by me (which is no wonder). Initially it has been posted on NetworkWorld, but I have developed it to include only the devices which resemble the iPhone 90% and more.
Top 10 iPhone Fakes:

1.Samsung Instinct

samsung_instinct.jpg

The device is made by Samsung and Sprint. It has GPS and in fact data transfer is much faster than in the original iPhone.

2. Sony Xperia

4. LG Voyager

htc_touch_dual.jpg

The device is able to carry 2 sim-cards simultaneously and seems to be the only probable iPhone competitor. It cannot be called directly an iPhone clone and moreover, it possesses almost all the features that iPhone doesn’t

The resemblance seems somewhere at 90%. The design, the button and even the wallpaper resembles the iPhone, but in order to navigate you will have to use a stylus.

Do Not Call Lists or Why iPhone Owners Seldom Use their Phone for Voice Calls

iphone_usage_2.jpgWhen it comes to paying your phone bill if you have an iPhone you can do it in a matter of seconds – from your phone. You go touch settings -> phone -> AT&T services. At the same time you can use other options like “View my minutes” to see where your money goes.

Do you want to know what is really incredible about the current use of iPhone? It is that the device is used less for making calls than other mobile phones!

International Business Times has unveiled a report saying that only 46.5% of iPhone owners sue their device for voice calls (whereas the figure is 71.7% with BlackBerry users).

Another point of the report is that iPhone users spend 12.1% of their time on the Internet. The owners of other phones spend up to 2.4%. Do you see now the difference in the use of iPhone and other communicators?

More than that iPhone owners spend 11.9% of their usage time listening to music or watching video (whereas the figure is 2.5% with other mobile devices).

att_plans_iphone.jpg

I’ve heard people saying that they use only about 10% of the given 200 text messages per month. Why? Because they use email instead. Email use enabled by iPhone is so great that people simply reject using traditional SMS. At the same time it seems rather weird. When you send someone a text message you are waiting for something that is called a “fast” answer, but you cannot ensure that writing an E-letter.

Even those who have the smallest plan with 1800 rollover minutes tend to use hundreds of MB of Internet traffic in data

And if you take this family share plan you are given 5000 rollover minutes. Some families I know told me that the utmost they use per month for calling is 200 minutes, the rest accounts for email or text messaging.

The thing people say about iPhone is that it is not a phone with Internet access but a small computer with a voice call function. Seems strange but credible, isn’t it?
